30 October Transition

We are excited to announce that the RIT Steering Committee has endorsed the transition of operational disaster management functions by 30 October 2023. This means that there are less than 65 business days to go!

The Disaster Management Transition Team (the Team) will continue to collaborate with partner agencies and cross-agency working groups to finalise planning and to begin the Transition.

Future structure

Mr Ben Marcus has been appointed as the Assistant Commissioner and Mr John Bosnjak has been appointed as the Chief Superintendent. Recruitment activities continue for two Superintendents, a Director, and Support Officer roles.

To support the establishment of a new Emergency Management Coordination Command (EMCC), a dedicated QPS Transition Team has been formed. Brianna Brown has been appointed as the Project Manager to lead the transition activities on behalf of the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The QPS Transition Team will continue to work closely with the RIT.

80 positions (inclusive of the 47 transitioning staff) have been approved to form the EMCC within QPS. New roles within the EMCC will be advertised on Smart Jobs over the coming weeks.

QPS inductions

The QPS Transition Team are developing a two-day induction for transitioning staff. A third training day will be scheduled with Team Leaders. This is tentatively scheduled for the week commencing 23 October 2023.

More information on the induction activities will be shared with you in advance of your transition.
